Connect your AI assistant
Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code and Codex can read your tasks, projects and Focus in Circular, and create and edit them if you allow it. You sign in to Circular and choose what they can do.
https://gocircular.dev/api/mcpRemote MCP over Streamable HTTP. Sign-in is OAuth, so there is no key to copy.
What your assistant can do
Your assistant works as you. It sees what you can see in the one workspace you choose, and nothing else. On the approval page you pick how much it can do:
- Read your workspaceAlways included
- Tasks, projects, comments, attachments and Focus.
- Also create and editOnly if you tick it
- Tasks, projects, comments and Focus. It can't delete anything.
- Also deleteOnly if you tick it. Never ticked for you.
- Tasks, projects and comments.
- Arrange teammates' FocusOwners and admins, only if you tick it
- Add to and reorder other people's Focus, not only yours.
- You can limit it to some teams or projects.
- It stays connected until you disconnect it, or after 90 days unused.
- It cannot upload files. Use the CLI or local MCP server for that.
What Circular stores and who processes it is in the privacy notice.
Claude
Custom connector- Click Add to Claude. It opens Claude's add-connector form with Circular filled in. Or open Customize, Connectors in Claude, click +, and choose Add custom connector.
- Check the name is Circular and the URL is
https://gocircular.dev/api/mcp, then click Add. - Click Connect. Sign in to Circular, pick a workspace, choose what Claude can do, and approve.
- In a chat, turn Circular on from the + menu, under Connectors.
On Team and Enterprise plans an Owner adds Circular once, in Organization settings, Connectors, or with this link. Members then click Connect in Customize, Connectors. Claude's free plan allows one custom connector.
Circular is not in Claude's directory yet. Once it is listed, you will be able to add it from there, and this page will link to it.
ChatGPT
Developer mode- Turn on Developer mode in ChatGPT on the web: Settings, Security and login, Developer mode. Some accounts show it under Settings, Apps, Advanced settings.
- Open chatgpt.com/plugins, click +, name it Circular, and enter
https://gocircular.dev/api/mcp. If it asks for authentication, choose OAuth. - Sign in to Circular, pick a workspace, choose what ChatGPT can do, and approve.
- Start a new chat and add Circular from the tools menu.
Developer mode is for Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Education plans. Some plans allow only read actions in developer mode.
Circular is not in ChatGPT's directory yet. Once it is listed, you will be able to add it from there, and this page will link to it.
Claude Code
Terminalclaude mcp add --transport http circular https://gocircular.dev/api/mcp- Run the command above.
- Start Claude Code, run
/mcp, choose circular, and sign in. Your browser opens the Circular approval page.
The command adds Circular to the current project. Add --scope user to use it in every project.
Codex
Terminalcodex mcp add circular --url https://gocircular.dev/api/mcp
codex mcp login circularThe first line adds Circular. The second signs you in: it opens your browser to the Circular approval page. On a remote machine, add --no-browser to the login and paste the callback URL back when asked.

Prefer a server that runs on your computer? The @zvndev/circular-mcp package speaks stdio. See the docs.
Disconnect

Troubleshooting
- The approval page shows the wrong account
- Click Not you?, sign in as the right person, and approve again.
- It is connected to the wrong workspace
- A connection covers one workspace. Disconnect it, connect again, and pick the workspace on the approval page. In Claude Code, run
/mcpand sign in to circular again. In Codex, runcodex mcp logout circularthencodex mcp login circular. - It says it needs write access
- You approved read only. When your assistant asks, reconnect and tick Also create and edit. The access you already gave stays.
- You don't have a workspace yet
- Create one when the approval page asks. You come back to finish connecting.
- It stopped working
- A connection ends when someone disconnects it, or after 90 days unused. Connect again from your assistant.
- Something else
- Email support@gocircular.dev. The support page lists what to include.
